Did you know that this month, August, is the official “Family Fun Month”? Well, it is! And what better way to enjoy family than a nice road trip? Of course, road trips can happen anywhere for any reason, but the nice thing about Texas is that you can road trip each weekend all month and never see the same things twice! Need some ideas? We’ve compiled a list of 4 easy weekend road trip destination favorites throughout the Lone Star State.
1. Travel to Dallas for an urban experience- maybe you’re from Dallas and never really explored it, or maybe you’ve got some folks coming to Texas, but while you’re here, we suggest you visit: Six Flags, Texas Rangers, Great Wolf Lodge, Gaylord Texan Hotel, the Sixth Floor Museum, IKEA and, of course Texas Treats.
2. Learn how to talk Texas in Luckenback where some southern cooking, country music, and local brew will put you in the mood for a trailride! In Luckenback the saying goes, “Hours are 9am til’ close”, and you’re sure to have a great time! Of course, we would be remiss if we didn’t suggest the official “Talk Texan” book to take with you!
3. Hit the beach in South Padre Island. Just a day’s drive from Dallas and you’ll be dipping you toes in the Gulf of Mexico! This strip of beach has been growing a great deal the past decade, so even if you went as a kid, there’s reason to go visit again! Take a cooler and a tent and you’re ready for a whole day of relaxing and sunbathing. Don’t forget some beach snacks (like praline pecans) and some Texas flags to stake around your tent!
4. Finally, take a weekend to help “Keep Austin Weird“. The official tourist website is here, but let us suggest some things to do while you’re in the state capital: take your boat to the lake, cycle down miles of greenbelt, or float the nearby Guadalupe River (make sure you have your Texas koozie to keep your bevy cool)!
We hope you have a chance to get out and get to know this great state whether it’s a day trip or a weekend-long! For some more road-tripping ideas, check out www.allacrosstexas.com. And if you’re just visiting, remember, “y’all come back now, ya’ hear”!
