In the mood for some deep fried pineapple upside down cake? It’s that time of year again. As September starts North Texas off with cooler weather, the State Fair of Texas keeps things hot with the 7th Annual Big Tex Choice Awards (a.k.a. the “what-are-they-gonna-fry-up-this-year-contest”). It’s the yearly competition that has introduced heart-stopping flavors like fried PBJ and banana sandwiches (with a nod to Elvis), fried margaritas (served up in a martini glass), and the real artery-clogger, fried butter (like butter needs any help).
Each year starry-eyed cooks set up their deep fryers with the hope of winning the prestigious award of “best taste” or “most creative”, and every year they start with the same thing –good ingredients and a new idea. Yahoo News just released this year’s State Fair of Texas Fried Food Awards, 2011 List, and we’d like to point out our personal favorite pre-taste competitor – Fried Texas Salsa.
Can’t you imagine it? Take some fresh Southwest Habanero Salsa, mix it in some tasty breadcrumbs and crunched up Texas Treats tortilla chips, roll it up together, and toss it in the fryer. After a couple minutes, your tasty treat is ready to dip into some spicy Texas Treats queso and voila!, you have a deep fried Texas Treats sensation. Now, of course, this flavor is already spoken for at this year’s fair in Dallas, but imagine what you could create next year? In fact, got a way for you to taste a State Fair favorite without leaving your house! You’ve heard of fried beer, but how about beer fries? This crunchy treat was debuted at the 2010 State Fair of Texas and they were a huge hit! This year, we’ve come up with a way for you to not only try the Beer Fries, but also to try the cactus candy, jalapeno lollipops, an assortment of Texas-sized jelly beans (including hot cinnamon), habanero pralines, cowboy snack mix and the one and only, “You Know You’re a Texas If…” book. Best part of it all? This fabulous combination of taste-bud tempters can be delivered right to your door (or someone else’s for that matter) just in time for the State Fair for just $30 (plus s&h).
We wrap these tantalizing tastes into a Texas-sized basket, tie on some festive ribbon and send the “State Fair Sampler” on its way! We think there’s just no better way to say “Howdy Y’all” to your family, friends, co-workers or clients in true Big Tex style than a Texas State Fair Sampler. Try one today; we know you’ll be a-hootin’ and a-hollerin’ when you get yours!
