Memorial Day originated following the the American Civil War as a way to honor the fallen Union soldiers in the Civil War. A wonderful tradition, indeed! Today, not only is it a special time to remember our fallen soldiers and those dear to us who have passed away, it’s also a great time to celebrate life! Since most schools and offices are closed on this special day, the opportunity to have family time is opened up. So, where in Texas are some great fun, family-friendly activities going on? - Kerrville Folk Festival, Kerrville, TX More than 30,000 people attend the Kerrville Folk Festival each year, many of whom choose to camp onsite and enjoy the Festival 24 hours a day. In addition to the concerts, the KFF features an arts & crafts show, kid concerts and activities, and more.
- Fredericksburg Crawfish Festival, Fredericksburg, TX Cajun food and music amid the rolling hills of the Texas Hill Country, the Fredericksburg Crawfish Festival helps usher in summer the right way. A gumbo cook-off, carnival, arts & crafts show, and washer pitching contest round out the festivities.
- National Polka Festival, Ennis, TX Featuring a colorful Czech parade, live music, arts & crafts, a horseshoe tournament, traditional Czech foods, dancing and a 5k run, Ennis’ annual National Polka Festival is the largest Czech heritage festival in the United States.
- Cowboy Capital Rodeo Association Pro Rodeo, Bandera, TXBandera promises family fun for all in the Texas Hill Country as the Cowboy Capital Rodeo Assn presents its 29th annual PRCA Pro Rodeo. The 2012 Memorial Weekend Rodeo will be held on May 25, 26 and 27 at Mansfield Park. Performances are at 8 pm all 3 nights. Events include Bull Riding, Barrel Racing, Bareback Riding and more!
