Autumn’s Arrival, State Parks’ Revivals

Here at Texas Treats, we love the beauty of nature. Maybe its a reminder of the wild days of the frontier that birthed the unique Texas spirit that still runs strong today. Or maybe those tears in your eyes at a park are just allergies. Either way, with 93 State Parks in Texas, the state has no shortage of preserved beauty to enjoy.

So, as Fall arrives officially in two days (and unofficially when the first big cool-down hits), its time to think about what nearby park you can visit this Fall in order to enjoy the splendor of Fall foliage. For some of the greatest sights, according to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, check out some of these parks. You might even think about riding on the Texas State railroad through the Pineywoods of East Texas in order to  experience nature up close while letting someone else worry about the driving (tip: only the first class car is air-conditioned, so go when its cooler). Or check out Lost Maples State Park, which is famous for its autumn colors in Texas. The Tyler area would be the place to go for East Texas folk wanting to enjoy the Texas Fall, but anyone close to central Texas should think about going to Lost Maples.

Maybe your not a nature person, though, and you still want the Fall to be fun. Well, 4 out of the 5 options on this list are still outdoors, but much less “wild.”

Of course, there’s always the easy option of just doing a backyard hangout and grilling some good food with football on in the house. However, don’t be afraid to try something you’ve never done before (like a Texas Treats snack, wink wink). Think about going camping just to get away from the hustle and bustle of normal life. Go fishing with friends. Take a day trip to a small Texas town to sample their local lifestyle. Just drive. This state is just too darn big to stay in one corner of it all year round. While it can be overwhelming to add trips to your hectic schedules, start small. Begin with day trips to see what you like and what you can handle. Then, work your way up if you can! Enjoy the Fall festivities!
