Halloween is next week and things are bound to get a little silly and spooky ’round here. The night of make-believe, sneaky tricks, and yummy treats gives all of us a chance to enjoy some creative costumes — especially on those darn adorable kiddos!
If you’re wondering how you can showcase your Texas spirit without breakin’ the bank this year, we’ve taken the liberty to round up some simple, easy, DIY Texas-inspired costumes.
1) Cowboy/Cowgirl — This is a classic nod to the midwestern lifestyle. All you need is a pair of jeans, bandana and a bonafide cowboy hat! Throw in some boots and you’ll be lookin’ fit as a fiddle!
2) Football Fashion — This is one of the easiest “costumes” you can put together. With football frenzy at it’s peak, boast a jersey from your favorite college, professional or (in true Friday Lights fashion) high school football team! If you’ve got a little kiddo, there are plenty of options to get them in the team spirit as well! In fact, if they’re little enough — fashion for ’em a football outfit using a brown onesie and hat, and some well-placed felt stitches. Just don’t confuse ’em for the real thing when you go outside to play some pick-up football!
3) The Living Lone Star — Embody our beloved nickname with some creative color-coordinating to show off your Texas Spirit. Wear a blue shirt, cut out one big white star (from felt or other fabric) and glue it on. Pair this with some red shorts and voila! You’ll have people singing, “Texas, Our Texas!” in no time.
4) A Twist on Texas History — For those who appreciate a little corny humor, here’s an idea. Wear a name tag that says” Hi My name is Alamo” then go around shaking hands with people and saying, “Hi! I don’t know if you remember me?” It may take ’em a minute but it’s bound to lead to some raised eyebrows and good-time guffaws.
Whichever costume you decide on this year, we at Texas Treats hope you have a fun and safe Halloween!
