If you’ve lived ’round here long enough, you’re bound to hear the rumor that Texas has no Fall. Well, that’s just what it is, folks — a rumor. Sure we may not be known for our fireworks foliage all across the Lone Star State, but there is plenty of room for all four seasons!
Tucked away in Vanderpool, TX is a treasure trove of vibrant colors and stubborn maples who are struttin’ their stuff like a bunch of orange-feathered peacocks every Fall. People drive for miles to visit Lost Maples State Natural Area Park and witness the Lone Star State welcoming Autumn with great enthusiasm.
In addition to beautiful foliage, Texas knows a thing or ten about punkin patches and hay rides to keep the youngin’s satisfied. In Floydada, TX a pumpkin is more than just a decoration for Fall, it’s a way of life! For an agricultural town that often depends on it’s crops to feed its families, Floydada’s most treasured crop is the pumpkin. Practically the entire month of October is dedicated to celebrating the friendly vegetable and locals are passionate about keepin’ the tradition of “Punkin Day” alive and well. With hayrides and homemade cider, pumpkin carvin’, seed spittin’, and pie makin’ contests, we think you’ll agree that Floydada, Texas knows full well how to enjoy the Fall season.
Even though you may not see it as you drive along our highways and interstates, Texas knows how to do Fall. It may not be a cookie cutter representation of how the entire East Coast celebrates it but really, when have we ever tried to be like anyone else?
We’re proud of our beloved Lone Star State, even when she scorches us in the summer, yet still manages to send frost in the Winter. We sort of love her ferocious tenacity and stubborn resolve to be exactly who she was meant to be — the best. 😉
