Celebrating a Texas Christmas in July

The month of July is the halfway point for old Saint Nick to produce enough toys for every good kid around the world. While Santa is working hard in the North Pole to meet his quota for 2013, we here in Texas are getting a little antsy waiting for December 25 to arrive. So to quell our impatience for the Christmas season we bring Christmas to July. This oxymoron, Christmas in July, is just what the doctor ordered for us Texans who are basking in three months of unbearable Texas heat. Throughout Texas there are several events celebrating the time-honored Christmas in July.

Christmas-in-July-Postcard---FrontThe spirit of giving is much more powerful than simply receiving a gift during Christmas, and the same rule applies for Christmas in July. This July, certain businesses in Allen, TX will donate 10% of their monthly sales to the Allen Community Outreach. Businesses like: Yogurtville, La Finca Chiquita, Pluckers Wing Bar, Silver Thai Cuisine, Savour, and Elke’s Market Cafe are all participating in the Christmas in July support of Allen Community Outreach. If you’re in the North Texas area, this is a great way for you to reach out and help during the Christmas in July season.

When Thanksgiving rolls around we all like to hold off our diets until New Years so we can enjoy all the delicious food associated with Thanksgiving and Christmas. Since Christmas in July is an oxymoron, then you won’t be surprised to hear that instead of eating you’re running! Annually the city of McKinney, TX holds the Christmas in July 5K, 10K, and Fun Run hosted by Stonebridge United Methodist Church. We hope to see you out there this year.
